Rev. Bret S. Myers
Statement: I am glad to be a part of First Congregational UCC in Waterloo! I love being a minister for so many reasons, but most importantly because I get to know people in a deeper way than what we often experience in relationships in which people are simply acquaintances. I see it as a blessing to get to know you. I want to encourage you in your hopes and dreams, laugh and be joyful in your celebrations, and be there as a comforter and inspiration in your your sorrows and hardships. Being there for others, and they for me at times, is so meaningful; and I am grateful for the opportunity to get to experience life's wonder from birth to death and all that life supplies in the time in between. It is all what makes us human. May our time together be a mutual blessing!
Interests: I love doing most outdoor activities (e.g., hiking, biking, canoeing/kayaking, tennis, water skiing, snow skiing -- downhill & cross country). I love traveling -- especially to places I've never been before; but have an especial fondness for mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, and oceans. And I also love photographing all the beautiful landscapes, waterscapes, and skyscapes I encounter; along with animals, flowers, and other fauna and flora. When I need to stay inside, I enjoy reading; and I also love to write; both poetry and prose. Experiencing the beauty of life is my passion, both in my relationships and in the things I do. What do you like to do?
Statement: I have enjoyed working in the religious field for many years. It is a joy to get to know the congregation members. I look forward to getting to know all of you and helping you with any of your needs that may arise.
Interests: Playing with my dog, Cooper; playing video games with my husband; listening to music; watching football; love Twizzlers!!!!
Statement:Hudson is a Brazilian native from São Paulo. His first contact with church music was through many relatives, most of them being church musicians as well, still during his childhood. Hudson graduated from the master's program in Organ Performance at the University of Iowa.
Interests: Hudson's hobbies include cooking, listening to music, and biking.
Director of Youth Ministries
Statement: It brings me great joy to be a part of the FCUCC team! I am a Cleveland native that moved deeper into the midwest in 2016 to attend the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) where I studied music and psychology. At UNI, I was a part of many musical ensembles, including Orchestra and Symphonic Band on oboe, as well as the Panther Marching Band on the drumline. I was also a carillonneur up in the campanile! I spent my summers in college working at various camps and serving a variety of roles, but my favorite was being the Adventure Coordinator, where I got to belay people up rock walls, send people down ziplines, challenge people in team building exercises, and teach about the magic of the growth zone! On top of being the Youth Director, I am also a student at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities obtaining my Master of Divinity. Let's roll up our sleeves, get ready to engage, and continue to learn what it means to learn and grow our relationships with God and one another!
Interests: Crafts of all shapes and sizes, reading young adult fiction, listening to science and psychology podcasts, discovering new board and card games, hiking and biking, being adventurous, and spending time with my fiance and our two kitties, Llewy and Finny. I also thoroughly enjoy drinking crazy amounts of tea and coffee, eating ice cream (especially when it is in malt-form), KitKats, and anything caramel.
Director of Music
Statement: I am honored to be able to use my gifts to help provide the musical portion of our weekly worship services. Music has always been an incredibly important part of the worship experience for me, and I look forward to helping provide that for the congregation at First Congregational UCC!
Interests: I enjoy biking, fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy opportunities to see and work with live music and community theatre here in the Cedar Valley!
